The University of Nairobi Internal Audit staff today held a social forum, where they easily interacted with stakeholders from the Finance to ICT. The Social Forum was held today, June, 24, 2015 at Arziki Restaurant, Chiromo Campus, College of Biological and Social Sciences.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Mutoro, who was speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi urged the staff to continue with the good work as they seek to improve and make the University a world class.
The Chief Guest of the event, Prof. Julius Ogen’go, in his address asked the staff members to seek work-life balance in their endeavours. Prof. Ogen’go advised staff members to seek spiritual, social and physical well being. “If wealth is lost, nothing is lost, if health is lost, something is lost. If your character is lost, everything is lost”, he said.
Speaking during the social forum organized by the Internal Audit Team, Mr. Peter Busienei, the Finance Officer urged the Internal Audit to be stewards of the University. He encouraged them to further their careers as they seek to help the University practise financial prudence and to be a world class university. Among the financial tools staff members were urged to be abreast with include; the University budget, procurement plan, performance contracting and the strategic plan. In his closing remarks, Mr. Busienei told the Internal Audit staff to ensure that the University gets value for money at all times.
Chief Internal Auditor, Mr. Patrick Agutu urged the staff to use their potential to help the University advance to word class status.
On his part the ICTC Director, Mr. Ibrahim Otieno noted that the Internal Audit team need to be able to audit information systems and detect fraud. In that regards, he urged them to advance their careers.
Having a social forum or capacity building is key for all departments as it forms part of the Performance Contract requirement.
