Internal Audit staff Participate in Tree Planting Ceremony

Tree planting at Kabete

On Wednesday, November 16, 2022, the Internal Audit department, in collaboration with the University fraternity and its partners, gathered and planted 11,000 tree seedlings.
This aligns with the president's directive to all citizens and organizations to assist the government in meeting its goal of planting 5 billion trees as part of its climate mitigation agenda.

Internal Audit staff participating in the exercise were Mr Felix Warutumo and Mr Chrispine Kapiyo.

Among the partners who donated seedlings and were present on the day were Qwetu student residences, Platinum Credit Limited, Heard of Green, Kenya Forest Service (KFS), Kenya Forest Research Institute (KEFRI), and the National Environmental Management Authority of Kenya (NEMA).

Mr. Johnson Kinyua, Dean of Students, stated in his sentiments that the contemporary issues of climate change facing planet Earth would be looked at from both a positive and negative perspective, and that the University decided to look into the issue positively by looking into what it would do for the greater good of the environment and save humanity from adverse climate changes.

Mr. Julius Kamau, Chief Conservator of Forests, Kenya Forest Service, informed the activity's participants of the Kenya Forest Service's ongoing efforts to increase tree cover and forest cover in the country by Vision 2030, noting that the majority of these efforts had already begun to bear fruit.
The chief conservator encouraged more corporations and organizations to join the Kenya Forest Service in planting more trees and praised those who had already done so.

Primary schools from the Upper Kabete campus also participated in the activity.
