The University of Nairobi officially launched its strategic Plan 2023-2027 and commissioned the UoN@50 Anniversary book on Friday, June 14, 2024 at the Confucius Institute.
Speaking during the launch, the Chair of the Committee, Prof. John Mande noted the record time in accomplishment of the delivery of the Strategic Plan since the committee was appointed and until the production of the draft was 1 year and it was a short time as compared to others historically. Prof. Mande also appreciated the diversity of expertise in the formulation of the committee members from the whole University.
Prof. Kennedy Ogolla took the audience through the highlights of the strategic plan. He mentioned that this Strategic Plan considered the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Africa Union Agenda 2063, East Africa Community Vision 2050, The Constitution of Kenya, Kenya Vision 2030, Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda and the Fourth Medium Term Plan.
He highlighted the mandate, Vision, Mission and core values as listed in the new strategic plan as, ‘Overall, the mandate of the UoN is to be a premier institution of higher education, research, and innovation that serves as a catalyst for intellectual growth, societal transformation, and sustainable development. Vision - A globally competitive university transforming society
Mission - To provide quality university education that embodies the aspirations of the Kenyan people and the global community through teaching, research, innovation, and community service.”
He mentioned the core values of the University as the Values of Integrity, accountability and good governance, Care, Freedom of thought and expression, Innovativeness, Professionalism and Sustainability.
In the next five years and for its implementation, the University needs Kshs. 108B.
Mr. John Orindi, Director,Corpotate Affairs gave an overview of the UoN@50 anniversary book on the history of the University as captured in thematic areas of leadership, milestones, graduation ceremonies, students’ association, sports, celebration of long-serving staff among others. He appreciated the sponsors who made the publication possible from the former Chancellor, Dr. Mrs. Vijoo Rattansi, ABSA, KASNEB, CHUNA, UNES. He also announced that the anniversary book will be available for sale at the University Bookstore.
Prof. Stephen Kiama, the Vice-Chancellor, while launching the Strategic Plan and commissioning of the UoN@50 anniversary book congratulated the teams for working tirelessly on the Strategic Plan and the UoN@50 anniversary book. He urged all the stakeholders to go ahead and cascade the plan down to Departments
