UoN wins the Best ICT Academy Award in 2022

On Friday February 24, 2023 at the Serena Hotel, the University of Nairobi (UoN) was awarded  ‘The Best ICT Academy 2022’ during the Huawei ICT Competition 2022-2023 Award Ceremony, since the signing of a Collaborative Agreement in 2018. This is the second time UoN has been recognized.

ICT staff members, George Ndegwa and Ruth Wambua were also recognized and awarded as the best instructors 2022.

“Establishment of the UoN ICT Academy in 2018, Over 600 students trained in ICT skills in Datacom, Cloud Computing, Security and Storage tracks, students linked to the Huawei Management Trainee Programme, hosting 3 ICT job fairs, Industry visits and signing of an MoU are some of the achievements the UoN Huawei academic Centre has achieved.”

This was what the Dean of Students, Mr. Johnson Kinyua highlighted as he was receiving the awards. He was speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama.

The Huawei ICT Skills Competition is a competitive ICT talent exchange training developed for University/College students globally. Since 2018, the University of Nairobi has participated in this healthy development of an ICT talent ecosystem and supported the integration of industry and education through students’ enrollment in the competition.

The University of Nairobi looks forward to a continued partnership with Huawei Technologies in generating more ICT professionals in the society to play a key role in boosting the Kenyan ICT Sector and economy to greater strides.
