UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI AT 50 YEARS LOGO UNVEILED

It is a time to celebrate. The University of Nairobi marks 50 years since it was transformed into the first national University in Kenya on July 1, 1970.

The University of Nairobi owes its origin to several developments in higher education within the country and the region. The idea of an institution for higher learning in Kenya goes back to 1947 when the Kenya Government drew up a plan for the establishment of a technical and commercial institute in Nairobi.

The UNSA Independent Electoral Commission is established under Article 13 of the UNSA Constitution 2017 to inter alia undertake   students’ elections on a regular basis in accordance with the aims, objectives and guiding principles in the   Constitution and Rules and Regulations Governing Students’ Elections, 2017.

UoN dons in taskforce that developed the Kiswahili & Bi-Lingual versions of National Assembly Standing Orders

University of Nairobi’s dons were part of the task force that developed Kiswahili and Bi-Lingual versions of the National Assembly Standing Orders which were unveiled by President Uhuru Kenyatta.  

From UoN, Prof. Iribe Mwangi, the Chairman, Kiswahili Department was the team leader of Kiswahili experts while Dr. Prisca Jerono and Dr. Nyachae Michira were members of the taskforce.

Other dons incorporated in the project were Dr. Robert Oduori (Moi), Mr. Vincent Magugu (Moi), Prof. Kitula King'ei (Kenyatta) and Dr Miriam Osore (Kenyatta).
