UoN Partnership with the Kenya Defense Forces attracts Global Interest

“The partnership between the University of Nairobi and Kenya Defense Forces has attracted interest globally being one of its kind. The Kenya  Defense  Staff College and the National Defense College in Karen have trained security managers from all over the world.”  This was revealed by Prof. Maria Nzomo, Director Institute of Diplomacy and International Studies.

The Malawi Government and the Malawi University of Science and Technology attested to that as a delegation led by Gen. Vincent Nundwe, Chief Defence Forces paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

 General  Nundwe observed that they have been sending their military staff to study at the Kenya  Defense Staff College that was established by  a partnership agreement between the University of Nairobi and the Ministry of Defense, Kenya in 2004.

Deputy Vice Chancellor of Malawi University of Science and Technology said, “We would like to establish an institute like Institute of Diplomacy and International studies (IDIS) in Malawi to build local capacity in management of Terror attacks, challenges of under development and emerging global issues ''. It would be cost effective to train at home.

On his part, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Kiama gladly accepted the request to mentor the new University in Malawi and build their capacity. He pledged the University’s support, “We will support you as a government and as an institution of Higher learning to mentor you until your institute is established'' .
