Ferdinand, a UoN BSC student is Kenya’s fastest in the 100m race

 

 

The university of Nairobi community is celebrating one student, Ferdinand Omanyala who ran the 100 metres race in 10.11 seconds on Saturday Jan 23, 2021 at the Nyayo National Stadium. He clocked the fastest time in Kenya in the race in the second leg of Athletics Kenya Relays Series

 

Omanyala, the Bachelor of Science student at the College of Biological and Physical Sciences has set his sights on completing the race in less than 10 seconds. Ferdinand is looking forward to representing Kenya in international competitions.

Academic Giant Prof. Okidi Launches His Memoir at UoN

On Friday evening January 22, 2021, Academia gathered from all over the world to celebrate the academic giant Professor Charles Odidi Okidi.

“Prof. Okidi has written his memoir, ‘In pursuit of Excellence’ while balancing his work and home life,’ testified the wife.

“It is a tough balance telling a story about your journey and what amounts to talking about yourself,” remarked Prof. Charles Okidi

UoN Students Win Global Finals Huawei ICT Competition 2020 Award

University of Nairobi’s team was on Monday January 18, 2021 awarded as winners of the global Huawei ICT competitions. The team was among three Kenyan teams which excelled at the Huawei ICT Competition Global Finals 2020 edition.

 

The event which was held at the Nairobi Serena Hotel and officiated by Amb. Simon Nabukwesi, the Principal Secretary of the State Department for University Education and Research in the Ministry of Education.

 

UoN Partnership with the Kenya Defense Forces attracts Global Interest

“The partnership between the University of Nairobi and Kenya Defense Forces has attracted interest globally being one of its kind. The Kenya  Defense  Staff College and the National Defense College in Karen have trained security managers from all over the world.”  This was revealed by Prof. Maria Nzomo, Director Institute of Diplomacy and International Studies.

The University holds it's annual prayer day.

The University of Nairobi kick started the year on a prayerful note by holding its annual prayer day on January 15, 2021. The event, albeit virtual, invited staff and students from all faiths.

“The University is celebrating 50 years of existence and these are prayers of thanksgiving even as we dedicate the year 2021 in God’s hands,” remarked Father Kaigua as he was moderating the prayer session.

Alumni Association donates hand washing stations

The University of Nairobi Alumni Association handed   over six handwashing stations worth Kenya Shillings 461, 606 to the University to help in the containment of covid-19.  The stations are a welcome gesture in the university’s fight against Covid-19 even as the University prepares to recall all students for on campus learning.

While handing over the equipment, the Associations’ vice chairperson Dr. Anne Assey said they are working towards getting more members on board so as to increase their scope and benefits to the university.

Strengthening the economic empowerment of women

The University of Nairobi and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have launched the Women’s Economic Empowerment Hub. Dubbed the WEE Hub, the project will be a thought leader in producing cutting edge, innovative, rigorous, and accessible research which will contribute to the full realization of women’s economic empowerment in Kenya. This cutting-edge research is expected to impact policy formulation, implementation, and up scaling of what works for women in economic empowerment into full scale programs.
