Appointment of new Head of Supply Chain Management Services

Mr. Dickson A. Lugonzo, MCIPS, MKISM has been appointed as the Director of Supply Chain Management Services at the University. Dickson has over 17 years’ experience in public procurement having worked as a Head of Supply Chain Management at the State Department for Vocational and Technical Training, State Department for Livestock, Ministry of Health, State Department for Youth Affairs and the Department of National Registration Bureau (Ministry of Interior & Coordination of National Government).

UoN-Soka University establish a Liasion Office at UoN’s Faculty of Arts

Soka University, Japan, and the University of Nairobi through their long standing partnership have established a liaison office at UoN. The establishment of the office has been fully funded by Soka University.

Following an MoU initially signed in 1988, the two universities have immensely benefitted from academic, cultural and language exchange. Staff and students have also benefited from joint research initiatives while UoN students have received financial support through scholarship opportunities.

Top 2020 KCSE students to study at University of Nairobi

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has placed approximately 13 of the top students who sat for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations in 2020 at the University of Nairobi (UoN) to pursue the Bachelor of Science degree in Medicine.

360 of the 869 top students who scored grade A will be admitted at UoN in September 2021 to pursue various degree programmes. KUCCPS data also shows that UoN will receive a total of 6407 students.

UoN renews collaboration with Center for Parliamentary Studies and Training

The University of Nairobi has renewed its collaboration with the Centre for Parliamentary Studies and Training (CPST) for another 5 years to offer its fit for purpose and relevant programmes to   Parliamentarians and Staff of Parliament. The programmes include Parliamentary democracy and governance, diplomacy and conflict management. Through the agreement, Members of Parliament and staff of Parliament will have the opportunity to   acquire diplomas and post graduate qualifications from the University of Nairobi.

UoN student to participate in Young Political Leadership School Africa Programme

Cynthia Khabetsa Mwavishi, a 2nd year student in the Faculty of Arts, is among the 100 emerging leaders from across Africa who will take part in the Young Political Leadership School Africa (YPLS Africa) programme.

The programme will be held in Monrovia, Liberia from October 25-29, 2021.

“I am happy to be the only one selected from Kenya. It was a rigorous and global exercise with a series of interviews” an elated Cynthia said the Bachelor of Arts student. “I look forward to participating in the program, networking and learning new skills. 

UoN tops in Kenya in University Ranking by Academic Performance

The University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) Ranking 2021 has placed the University of Nairobi top in Kenya and position 1222 in the world.

In the 2021 ranking, Egerton University is position 1945, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology is 2377, Moi University is 2429 and Kenyatta University is 2679.

Globally, Harvard University, University of Toronto and Stanford University were ranked position 1, 2 and 3 respectively.

UoN maintains top position in Kenya and the region despite the effects of Covid-19

The University of Nairobi has been ranked best university in the country and in the East and Central Africa Region for more than 5 years in row in the just released Webometrics Ranking. The Ranking web of Universities (Webometrics) has released the July 2021 edition of the Webometrics report placing the University of Nairobi position 1 in Kenya, 13 in Africa and 1054 in the world.

Omanyala sets new national record, but sadly fails to make finals.

Ferdinand Omanyala clocked 10.00 to finish third in heat one of the 100m semi-finals at the Tokyo Olympics breaking his own national record. He however failed to make it to the finals.

The second year, University of Nairobi student took to Instagram after the race on Sunday, August 1, 2021, to express his delight of being part of the Olympics and the joy of beating his idol, Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake.

Omanyala qualifies into the Tokyo Olympics semi finals

Kenyan sprinter and University of Nairobi student, Ferdinand Omanyala qualified for the 100 metres semi final race at Tokyo Olympics after finishing third in heat five. 
 
He ran at 10.01 seconds and broke the National record of 10.02 seconds which was set by him.
 
Omanyala, makes history as the first Kenyan to make it to Olympics Semi-Finals in 100 metres. 
 
In support of Omanyala, the University of Nairobi hosted a watch party. Comrades came out to support one of their own. The watch party  was supported by Tecno Kenya and KTN.

Varsity wins British Council grant of Kshs. 180 M grant & named a Centre of Excellence

The University of Nairobi in partnership with the City University of London and the Change School, UK, has won the British Council grant worth Kshs. 180 M (£1.2m) for Innovation for African Universities (IAU) Programme Centre of Excellence.

The Innovation for African Universities programme is designed to support the development of Africa – UK University partnerships that build institutional capacity for higher education engagement in entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems in selected Sub-Saharan African countries, namely Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa.
