Entrepreneurship projects for Africa have been announced

The British Council has announced the winners of funding for the inaugural Innovation for African Universities programme (IAU) 2021. The University of Nairobi is part of the Centre of Excellence (CoE) team in partnership with City, University London and ChangeSchool.

Over 50 applications were assessed through a rigorous process of multistage evaluation, and 24 projects were selected to be a part of the programme. 

UoN students emerge 1st runners up in YOBIC competition

Four University of Nairobi students namely: Peter Nguka, Cyrus Muturi, Moses Muchiri and Grace Kamau beat teams from Strathmore University and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) to represent Kenya in the Africa Research University Alliance (ARUA) Centre of Excellence for Unemployment and Skills Development competition known as Youth Business and Innovation challenge (YOBIC).

 

UoN ranked top in World Universities Rank 2022 Report

The University of Nairobi has been ranked Number 1 in Kenya,11th in Africa  and in the  501-600 category globally among the best universities by Times Higher Education (THE) in the just released World Universities Ranking 2022 report. This is a significant improvement from last year’s ranking, in which UoN emerged 601-800.

The ranking checks on parameters like Research, citation, teaching, Industry income and International Outlook. With a highest score on Citations  at 96.7% , the University of Nairobi had a mean score of between 38-40%

Amplifying community voices for sustainable peace in Kenya

The University of Nairobi hosted a three day convention on youth, peace and elections. This was in partnership with USAID and the Universities & College Student’ Peace Association of Kenya (UCSPAK).

 The convention was held in a bid to encourage the youth’s participation in peace building and good governance with the main focus being increased youth participation in the electoral process before, during and after the August 2022 election.

UNES announces new Managing Director and CEO

The Board of University of Nairobi Enterprises and Services (UNES) Limited has announced that, Mr. Seith Abeka, has been appointed as the substantive Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for the State Corporation in a meeting held on July 19, 2021.

The Board Chairman Eng. Kariuki Muchemi said that Mr. Abeka emerged as the best candidate after a rigorous and competitive recruitment and interview process which was conducted as per UNES and Public Service Commission guidelines.

Appointment of new Head of Supply Chain Management Services

Mr. Dickson A. Lugonzo, MCIPS, MKISM has been appointed as the Director of Supply Chain Management Services at the University. Dickson has over 17 years’ experience in public procurement having worked as a Head of Supply Chain Management at the State Department for Vocational and Technical Training, State Department for Livestock, Ministry of Health, State Department for Youth Affairs and the Department of National Registration Bureau (Ministry of Interior & Coordination of National Government).

UoN-Soka University establish a Liasion Office at UoN’s Faculty of Arts

Soka University, Japan, and the University of Nairobi through their long standing partnership have established a liaison office at UoN. The establishment of the office has been fully funded by Soka University.

Following an MoU initially signed in 1988, the two universities have immensely benefitted from academic, cultural and language exchange. Staff and students have also benefited from joint research initiatives while UoN students have received financial support through scholarship opportunities.
