Five conferences at the Research Week 2021

The University of Nairobi takes great pride in providing an enabling, strong and vibrant research culture among staff, students and partners. UoN is recognized for the impact and relevance of research outputs and innovations in SSA region and beyond. The UoN is strategic in providing researchers with a platform to engage peers and stakeholders about their research, and also get the opportunity to network with likeminded stakeholders in relevant respective fields.

Niko Green: Enabling circular and sustainable construction

University of Nairobi’s Department of Architecture is part of a multidisciplinary team involved in Niko Green Waste Company’s Endelevu Africa project.  This project has planned to construct a safe and climate friendly Crèche at the University of Nairobi.

This was revealed when a team from Endelevu Africa Project paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor, UoN, Prof. Stephen Kiama on Monday, September 27, 2021.

65th Graduation Ceremony- A story of resilience in the face of adversity

“Let us refuse to be prisoners of history and deliberately prepare ourselves for the journey ahead. Like Martin Luther King Jr, we may not have the whole staircase, but we ought to take the first step in faith.” Emphasized Dr. Vijoo Rattansi, OGW, Chancellor, the University of Nairobi at the 65th graduation ceremony.

 

Dr. Rattansi encouraged the class of 2021 that graduation presents an opportunity to start afresh and to embark on new beginnings.

Today we admit you as Okello and we expect you to leave UoN as an architect, you join as Wanjuki and leave as a doctor and surgeon, You join as Kemunto and leave here as a veterinary doctor, You come here as Mohammed and leave  UoN as an accountant, you join UoN as a simple Sanapei and leave here as an economist, You come here as a Patel and leave our gates as a pharmacist,  Join as Nafula and exit as a lawyer, a sociologist or archeologist. That is the transformation that I expect you to undergo.

SURE Food Project Launched

The University of Nairobi in partnership with other institutions has received funding from the Germany Government to conduct a 3-year project on solutions to food insecurity and malnutrition. On  Tuesday, September 21, 2021, a team from Strengthening Urban Resilience in FOOD and nutrition security in Kenya paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama, and briefed him on the SURE Food project launch.

Preparations for 65th graduation ceremony underway

Preparations for the 65th graduation ceremony are in top gear as over 4200 graduates will be conferred Degrees and awarded Diplomas by the Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi on Friday, September 24, 2021 at the Great Court.

At the ceremony, Prof. Fredrick Namenya Were will receive a Doctor of Science Degree Award (DSC). He joins the ranks of five other professors who have achieved the coveted feat since the establishment of the University in 1970.

UoN admits over 10,000 first year students

The University of Nairobi has received over 10,000 first year students for the Academic Calendar 2021/22. The first years reported on Monday, September 20, 2021. 6,407 students were placed by KUCCPS and the rest are module II students. All the 11 faculties have received students. 

The students will be taken through orientation the whole week. The orientation will be to a large extent Faculty-based. Thus, students will be exposed in detail to the facilities in their respective Faculties and Campuses, and in general to those of the entire University.
