7000 Seedlings planted on Annual Tree Planting and Growing Day

The University community and its partners gathered and planted 7000 tree seedlings on Friday, May 13, 2022, on the Annual Tree Planting and Growing Day.

Equity Group Foundation,County Government, National Government,  Shamba Café, Loresho Community and Association of Green champions joined the university to plant and grow trees.

 “We have been planting trees annually for as long as I can remember. When we plant a tree, we show that we have hope; Hope for a better tomorrow,” remarked the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama during the official ceremony.

The Internal Audit Department visits Havillah Children's home

On 6th May 2022, the Internal Audit Department visited Havillah Children's home as part of the Department's Performance Contract targets. The staff members were received warmly by the Havillah fraternity who had been eagerly waiting for them. They donated food stuffs, clothing among other items to the children. 

Community outreach activity at the Havillah Children’s home

The University of Nairobi’s department of Internal Audit led by the director, internal audit, Mr. Kenneth Gitau organized a Community outreach activity at the Havillah Children’s home in Mwiki Kasarani on May 6th 2022 where they donated foodstuff and toiletries to the home. The outreach was in accordance with the FY 2021/2022 Performance contract in which the department was required to visit a children’s home.  

UoN ranked in QS World University Rankings by Subject

The University of Nairobi’s development studies has been ranked in the band 51-100 in the 12th edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, released on 6 April, 2022. In this ranking, the international higher education analysts QS Quacquarelli Symonds, names the world’s top universities for the study of 51 academic disciplines and five broad faculty areas.

The other two UoN entries are in agriculture and forestry 301-350 (unchanged year on year), and in medicine 451-500, up one band.

Kiswahili’s Renewed Campaign by AU and UNESCO

The Kiswahili language has grown in Africa and beyond. The language has an estimate of over 200million speakers globally.

Due to its growth, it has had a lot of international recognition. At the beginning of the year, African Union (AU) declared the language as an official working language. In addition, in November, UNESCO declared 7th July as World Kiswahili Language Day.

The AU and UNESCO have renewed the push for Kiswahili to be a lingua franca in Africa. The campaign is said to benefit both the African continent and the world.

UN honors Wangari Maathai with Stamp

On thursday,14th April 2022, the United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) issued a definitive stamp to mark the birthday of Wangari Maathai, who was born on 1 April 1940. The €0.85 stamp is part of a series of definitive stamps illustrated by Martin Mörck (Norway). The German quote on the stamp reads “When we plant trees, we plant the seeds of peace and hope”.

The Internal Audit Department takes the number 1 position yet again in the recently concluded 2020/2021 PC!!!!

In the Performance Contracting and Staff Recognition Awards (for  2020/2021) held earlier today at Taifa Hall, the Internal Audit Department was awarded for taking the number 1 position in the Central Administration departments Category. The Director Internal Audit proudly received the trophy and the certificate of recognition from the Vice Chancellor on behalf of the department.
