Collaboration between UoN and AICAT: Unlocking Food Security Challenge

For a period of 11 months, the University of Nairobi has sponsored an annual internship program for agriculture students in conjunction with the Arava International Centre for Agricultural Training (AICAT).
The center annually teaches more than 1,000 students from academic institutions, mostly in Africa and Asia.
Among the Kenyan institutions that have benefited from the initiative are the University of Nairobi, JKUAT, Egerton University, Kenyatta University, Kenya Water Institute, Turkana County, and Ramogi Institute of Advanced Technology.

EXIT MEETING FOR AUDIT OF RECRUITMENT PROCESS

On Monday 12th Sept, 2022, the Internal Audit Department Team C held an opening meeting with the Recruitment department. From the Internal Audit department, in attendance was the Team leader Ms.Anna Muruingi who chaired the meeting, Ms.Irene Muihia, Mr.Jared Manono, Mr.Francis Musila. And Ms.Mary Mukuwa

From the Recruitment department was Ms. Mary Musyoki , Ms. Andrine Ireri and Mr. Edward Sibota  were also in attendance.

UoN maintains top rank in Kenya

UoN has maintained its lead position in Kenya; ranked 14 in Africa and 1101 globally. This puts the University at the top 4% of all the universities ranked globally.

In Kenya, Kenyatta University followed at number 52, while Egerton University was ranked 74.

This was announced through the webometrics website in the ranking released in July 2022. 

South African Universities took position 1, 2 and 3 in Africa; University of Cape town, Witwatersrand and Stellen Bosch University respectively.

Launch of Covid-19 Vaccination Accelerated Programme

UoN’s USAID Fahari ya Jamii project took part in the Nairobi accelerated COVID-19 vaccination campaign launch at Kibra Level 3 Hospital on Thursday, 2nd June 2022. The campaign targets to have at least 70% of the population in Nairobi vaccinated in the next six weeks. Currently, 48.9% (1,492,877) of the population in Nairobi is fully vaccinated against a targeted population of 3,052,494 persons.

STRATEGIES FOR MORE TIMELY INTERNAL AUDIT REPORTS

Lawrence Sawyer, one of the “fathers” of modern internal auditing once observed that, “Few sources of friction within the
auditing department exceed that caused by the process of report writing. The most brilliant of analyses and the most
productive of audit findings seem to be forgotten during the trauma of report writing.” From my experience truer words
have never been written.

7000 Seedlings planted on Annual Tree Planting and Growing Day

The University community and its partners gathered and planted 7000 tree seedlings on Friday, May 13, 2022, on the Annual Tree Planting and Growing Day.

Equity Group Foundation,County Government, National Government,  Shamba Café, Loresho Community and Association of Green champions joined the university to plant and grow trees.

 “We have been planting trees annually for as long as I can remember. When we plant a tree, we show that we have hope; Hope for a better tomorrow,” remarked the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama during the official ceremony.

The Internal Audit Department visits Havillah Children's home

On 6th May 2022, the Internal Audit Department visited Havillah Children's home as part of the Department's Performance Contract targets. The staff members were received warmly by the Havillah fraternity who had been eagerly waiting for them. They donated food stuffs, clothing among other items to the children.
