All Internal Audit department staff held a luncheon on Friday 31st May, 2024 to bid farewell to Mr. Muasya, who has retired from service. Mr. Muasya has served the University for almost four decades. The luncheon was held at Mahatma Gandhi Graduate school boardroom. All staff wished him well as he proceeded with his retirement.

The internal audit staff participated in the goverment15 billion trees growing agenda on National tree planting day held on 10th May, 2024. In order to achieve the 15 billion trees target,  the government has adopted a multi-agency cooperation approach as a key element towards  the achievement of the initiative.

Tree planting at upper Kabete six staff members from internal audit participated with person planting over 50 seedlings. The member of staff present were Ms. Ann Muriungi, Ms. Esther Wambua, Ms. Racheal Kiiru, Ms. Rose Njoroge, Mr. Felix Warutumo, Mr. Evans Nyandumo and Mr. Chrispine Odhiambo.

The category of the awards were pn:
1. Best Universities Internal Audit Function of the Year.
2. 2nd Runners up Chief Audit Executive of the year.
The event recognised individuals and Internal Audit functions that are committed towards professionalizing their operations in conformity to Risk Management , Innovation, and Global international Professional Standards.

Internal Audit staff observed a special public holiday in honor of the National Tree Planting Campaign, which was a component of the Presidential Programme for the Accelerated Restoration of Forests and Rangelands. The campaign's goal is to plant 15 billion trees by 2032.

Amendments to the taxation of employment income:

The University of Nairobi’s department of Internal Audit led by the director, internal audit, Mr. Kenneth Gitau organized a Community outreach activity at the Havillah Children’s home in Mwiki Kasarani on September 1st 2023 where they donated foodstuff and toiletries to the home. The outreach was in accordance with the FY 2022/2023 Performance contract in which the department was required to visit a children’s home.  

Tuesday, March 14, 2023. Mercy Cheptoo, Kibet Brian and Musikoyo Elly Keanes, final-year students at the Faculty of Law are the winners of the Inaugural Strathmore Tax Law Hackathon. The competition required students to come up with innovative and equitable methods of taxing professional services and the digital economy.  The team also emerged as the second runner up in the best presentation category.

Since the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Act No. 45 of 2013 ("the Act") was enacted in December 2013, giving rise to new NSSF rates, there have been legal impediments.

The Employment and Labour Relations Court (ELRC) erred in declaring the Act illegal, according to the Court of Appeal in February 2023.
It determined that the ELRC lacked the authority to do so because that was the domain of the High Court.
As a result, the Act is now legal, and the government can enforce it.

On Friday February 24, 2023 at the Serena Hotel, the University of Nairobi (UoN) was awarded  ‘The Best ICT Academy 2022’ during the Huawei ICT Competition 2022-2023 Award Ceremony, since the signing of a Collaborative Agreement in 2018. This is the second time UoN has been recognized.

ICT staff members, George Ndegwa and Ruth Wambua were also recognized and awarded as the best instructors 2022.
